About Lucy
Artist Statement
I paint for the same reason we open a favourite book, to be transported. My work is an invitation to get lost in the layers of the painting much like one might get lost in the chapters of a novel, where the story is told through light and the rhythm of the brushwork.
While my heart remains rooted in a philosophy of living kindly for our planet, I seek to offer something more than a reflection of nature, I strive to offer a threshold. My goal is to provide a soulful escape from an increasingly loud world.
Inspired by the creatures and the elemental forces of the wild, my paintings are designed to be 'windows of peace' that transport you from reality into a place of effortless rest, bringing the whimsical spirit of nature into the sanctuary of your home. By honouring classical Old Master techniques with an ethereal, contemporary edge, I aim to strike a balance between reality and dreamscape. Through harmonising colour palettes and expressive, layered brushwork, each piece becomes a peaceful haven, inviting you to step through the frame, leave the everyday behind, and find your quiet elsewhere.
Artist Bio
Born in the heart of the UK countryside and now based in New Zealand, Lucy grew up drawing inspiration from her grandparents, a watercolorist and an oil painter. The language of art was a constant presence, nurtured throughout her childhood.
Before returning to her calling at the easel following the birth of her second daughter in her mid-30s, Lucy spent years cultivating a successful eco-friendly hairstyling business. This chapter solidified her "living kindly" philosophy, which now guides every layer, creating atmospheric depth for that soulful escape.
Today, Lucy is a professional artist who bridges traditional Old Master methods with a contemporary spirit. Her work, featured in the Art to Hearts Project, is designed for those who seek to trade the noise of reality for a "quiet elsewhere." Through her paintings, Lucy offers a whimsical escape, inviting the viewer to step out of the everyday and into a timeless, visual sanctuary.
